Just another reminder that "this is my Father's world." The flowers are beautiful (and Eliana would add gorgeous!).

Hi. My name is Heather and I am very intrigued by your blog. I constantly am thinking how I want to give my family a healthy life, but the "health" world is so foreign to me, I feel quite lost. I am overweight, my husband is diabetic (recently diagnosed), my kids (well, I fear for their future). Health foods scare be because of the cost and also I just don't know where to start. Do you have an email contact that I could reach you at? My email is mccannfam5@gmail.com. I really appreciate your time. God Bless!

Heather,
I am so glad that you found my blog and that you are concerned about the health of yourself and your family. Your feeling of being overwhelmed is understandable, but the important thing to remember is to change a little bit at a time. The number one thing to change (especially with your husband's diabetes) is to cut sugar from your diet.

As far as the cost goes, my husband and I were concerned as well, but because it was necessary, we threw caution to the wind and went shopping. Our total cost for a little over a week's worth of groceries was just less than what we had been spending every week before our diet change. When we thought it through, we realized that along with going out to eat 2 or 3 times per week, we were also buying a lot of "convenience foods" like frozen "diet" meals, drink mixes like Crystal Light, Sodas (Dr. Pepper was my addiction), 100 calorie "treats" and many other things. Those poor choices really added up, but made it to where we did not notice a change in our grocery bill (except that it actually has gone down some).

My main goal is to eat real food that was intended for my consumption. The following is not intended for our consumption: Chemicals; preservatives; processed, refined and bleached sugars and flours; mammals' milk (other than human mother's milk for her babies); etc...

Along with this comment, I will also email you, so you can contact me if you have any specific questions. My goal in posting about my health issues and our diet change was to help others, so I look forward to helping you. =)

Love the plumeria! We used to have all kinds of them around in Guam and I've missed seeing them. Congrats on the beautiful flowers!
