...For the "tow truck guy" to get to know you? Well, ours does! I think we have to put him on our Christmas list now. =)
Last week, Jason was driving home from an appointment and noticed that the gas prices at Wal-mart had drastically dropped. He decided that he would take my truck out after the kids were in bed and fill it up. 45 minutes after he left, he was still not home. I tried to call him, but he did not answer. I became a little worried since Wal-mart is only 5 minutes up the road. I walked past one of the windows on the front side of the house and noticed my truck pulling up to the mailbox very slowly. It stopped, and I saw Jason talking to someone that I didn't know. Come to find out...Jason had never even made it out of our subdivision. The truck broke down just before the entrance, and this guy (that I saw Jason talking to in front of our house) had offered to help Jason push the truck back to our house. It took them 45 minutes to push that monster of a truck all the way back to our house. Wow! Good Samaritans do still exist! Thank the Lord, He was looking out for Jason that night.
Long story short...we had the truck towed to Car Max (again), had it checked out and got it "fixed"...AGAIN!!! We picked it up last Saturday, drove it to church on Sunday and didn't have any problems...UNTIL....
Wednesday, when I had my doctor's appointment, I drove my truck to the doctor, but when I went to leave, it wouldn't start! Aaargh! I wanted to cry...I felt so betrayed by my beloved truck. Jason was unable to come to my rescue right away, because he was an hour and a half south of us and still had something he had to do before he could break away. He did, however, call Car Max and the tow truck guy to get everything scheduled for me. The tow truck guy said he could be there in 20 to 30 minutes. I really didn't want him to, because I didn't want to go back in the waiting room with all of our paraphernalia or sit in the parking lot waiting for Jason to come get us. I immediately started praying that God would work out the timing, so that we could wait in the truck. It was 65 degrees outside, so we just propped open a couple of doors and felt great. The girls and I ended up having to wait about 2 1/2 hours, but I didn't mind too much. God did work it out so that the tow truck guy pulled into the parking lot just a couple of minutes before Jason arrived. Isn't God great? He cares about the small stuff. =)
The tow truck guy waved as we were walking to Jason's truck and said, "Sorry we had to meet like this again." How sad is that? He knows us.
We are very thankful that we decided to purchase the extended warranty on the truck when we bought it from Car Max. We only have to pay $50 for each trip to the shop, and the amount that we payed for the warranty has been well exceeded in the cost of the repairs.
We're not sure when (and if) we're going to go pick it up. It's (supposedly) fixed right now, but we are seriously considering a trade-in with both vehicles. Since Jason has a company vehicle again, we don't need his truck (except when mine breaks down), so we thought we could save some money by trading them both in on a more reliable vehicle. Pray for us that we'll make the right decision and that God will lead us to what we should do.

Drama, Drama, DRAMA!!!
We are all about the drama, or so it seems. We need your prayers right now. This afternoon, we ran over to Wal-Mart to pick up a few things, and as we were leaving, our truck broke down...AGAIN!!!! It seems to be doing the same thing it was last time, so we had it towed to Car Max....$88.00!!! We had to take a taxi to the airport to rent a car from Enterprise...$40.50 for the taxi and $70/day for the rental!!! Believe me, all of those WILL be billed to Car Max.
All of this took place during a big rain storm with lots of lightning, but we really can't complain. God took great care of us!! We were told the tow truck was going to take an hour to get to Wal-Mart, and it actually took less than 15 minutes. We were going to have to call for a cab, but as we were unloading the truck, we saw a taxi sitting just a few rows over in the parking lot. The guy said he would wait for us to have the truck towed. Once we got to Enterprise, we were in and out in less than 10 minutes!
Isn't God incredible? He cares about all the little details in our lives. Sometimes my faith is so small when it comes to situations like this, and then when it's all over, I realize that God was with us the whole time. He never abandoned us, and He made sure that everything was taken care of and in a timely manner, too!
We would appreciate your prayers as we have to wait for the truck to be fixed. We are supposed to check out of the condo at 10am tomorrow morning, and at this point, Car Max doesn't even know that our truck is on their lot. So, we're not sure if we're going to have to stay another night or more. Remember when we got Jason's truck for work? Well, we had been approved through our credit union for a vehicle for both of us, but obviously we only got Jason's truck. I still have the "check" from our credit union for my vehicle, and it expires tomorrow! How weird is that? So, for the fun of it, we're going to check out Car Max tomorrow to see if we can trade in my truck. Please pray for us as we'll have to make those decisions tomorrow. I am not going to be pressured into another vehicle just because we're having trouble my truck, but I do believe that God allows things to happen for a purpose. So, we're going to at least pursue it, in case that is what God wants.
My question for you now is this: Should we stay away from Wal-Mart, or was that just a fluke? My kids are beginning to dislike Wal-Mart very much! =) I'll keep you posted...

Our Holiday Weekend
We're back! Unfortunately, our weekend did not go completely as planned. Here's what happened...We were going to take Jason's truck up to my parents' house but decided that we didn't want to have to try to squeeze everything in his truck, so we packed everything up in my truck. We stopped by Wal-mart on the way out of town to get a couple of things in the store and to fill up with gas. After filling up, Jason tried to start the car, and it wouldn't! The guys in the Wal-mart Tire and Lube area tried to help us by checking the battery/jump starting the battery...to no avail. Jason called our insurance company, and they ordered a tow truck to take the truck to the house. It was too loaded down to tow to Car Max, so we decided to take care of that after the weekend.
We sat in the Wal-mart gas station for a couple of hours, and when the tow truck showed up, the girls and I walked around Wal-mart (i.e. checked out the toy section) while we waited for Jason to get his truck from the house so he could come get us. By the time we got home, it was so late, and the girls were starving. So, we were unable to go to my parents' house until Sunday morning.
We were really blessed, though, because since this happened in the late afternoon, it was not miserably hot. We were able to sit in the car with all the doors opened, and a cool breeze drifted through the car to keep us comfortable. The girls were outstanding! They did not whine or complain one bit! They make us so proud! =) Of course, the next morning when we told the girls that we had to stop at Wal-mart to get gas in Daddy's truck, Larissa playfully rolled her eyes and with a smile said, "Oh brother!"
Other than the truck problems and the delayed departure, we had a really good time at my parents' house. My sister and her family live near my parents, so they all joined us for meals and games. Jason and I decided to prepare all the main meals for the weekend, so my mom could have a break, and so we could start introducing a more whole foods way of eating to my family. Everything was very well received...even by the kids and teenagers (and my picky brother-in-law, Richard! =) Just kidding Richard!). I'll be sharing some of our favorite recipes soon for those of you who are interested. =)
This morning, Jason contacted Car Max about my truck, and they arranged for a tow truck to come get the truck (no charge) and take it to Car Max (where we get any work that's under warranty done for no more than $50! Hence another reason why I love Car Max so much.). We are waiting to hear from them as to how long it will take to fix, but they have told us that they will supply us with a rental vehicle if it's going to take too long. Here's a picture of my poor "little" truck being towed. It makes me sad to see it. =(

Weekend Catch-Up
Most of Friday evening and Saturday morning and afternoon was spent car shopping. So much fun!! (Can you sense the sarcasm?) There's nothing worse than a bunch of sleazy, greasy, cheesy, lying, cheating, good-for-nothing car salesmen! They literally make me sick! All that time spent in and out of dealerships, and we couldn't "seal a deal." We came home and started looking online at Car Max. We've used them several times in the past and have always had relatively pleasant experiences. Jason found several vehicles he was interested in and decided to check them out when we had time to go see them.
We couldn't go on Saturday evening, because we had plans to go to the ballet. That was okay, though. "Cinderella" was so much fun, and the "performers" were great! The girls really enjoyed everything. I asked them to name something specific that they really liked about the ballet, and here's what they said...Sydney said she liked the part where the stepsisters were sewing, Larissa said that she liked the dancing (specifically the "fancy footwork"--No, that wasn't her exact words.) and Alyx said she liked the part when the stepsisters were dancing at the ball. I was really shocked that they didn't pick something that had to do with Cinderella. I guess they go more for the comedy in a performance, and that's to be expected with a "Daddy" like Jason. =) We all agreed that the fairy godmother showed amazing talent when she was en pointe.
Four of our friends from church joined us...it was a good time! One of the couples brought their 2-year-old daughter, and she behaved very well. She really enjoyed the ballet, too, and loved seeing "Miss Jill." =) Sometimes I think it's more entertaining to watch your own kids (or other people's kids) enjoying a performance than to actually watch it yourself. You get to see that look of wonderment and awe on their faces and almost get to feel that bit of innocence in their pure excitement of new experiences.
Buying 5 tickets at $15 each = $75...Spending an evening with family and friends = Priceless!
Mother's Day Sunday was lovely. The girls had made some gifts for me earlier in the week and had been saving them for the actual day. Their anticipation of the day was so much fun to watch. You would have thought it was going to be Christmas morning for them. To me, I don't need the gifts and such. I just love that they thought of me and put their love into each of their gifts. Happy (Belated) Mother's Day to all of you mothers out there. I hope that you had a wonderful day with your family.
Sunday would have been a little more relaxing had we not felt the pressure to get Jason's car for work Monday morning. After we had lunch, we drove out to Car Max, found the salesman Jason had talked to on the phone, told him we were pressed for time and immediately started looking at the vehicles Jason was interested in. Long story short...we got a truck for him and were in and out in about an hour and a half! Not too bad, huh? Car Max is great for the kids, too. They have a "Play Room" to keep them occupied. =) I think after this weekend we have come to the conclusion that the only place to buy a used vehicle is from Car Max.
Here are some pictures of Jason with his new truck. It's a 2005 Mazda Tribute with plenty of space to carry the samples he'll need for work. God really did work out this deal for us, and we are very thankful for that. As much of a pain as it was to visit the other dealerships, we realized that it was necessary for us to truly appreciate the deal that we got at Car Max.
